Charles Motel
Welcome! The Charles Motel & Hot Springs, open to the public daily for lodging and hot spring soaks, retains many historic characteristics that date back from the time the facility was built – the bathhouse layout is original, as is the funky vintage tile work – giving the Charles all the charm in the world.
The Charles is made up of two historical buildings. The Spa building, constructed in the late 1940s, and The Charles Apartments, built in the early ‘30s, sit side-by-side on Broadway, awaiting the arrival of guests who venture to the southwest for a relaxing getaway, or on a quest for healing, or even who “just had to stop in a town called Truth or Consequences.”
The real joy of the Charles Spa and Motel lies in the mineral-rich water that flows from the ground beneath the facility, arriving in the Charles’ baths at a piping 113.5 degrees fahrenheit. This incredible water has been used in healing for centuries.
The Charles Apartments are available for short and long-term stays, with rooms priced by the day or month. The amenities in the rooms include a sitting area, one or two beds, cable tv, and full bathrooms. Most rooms have a full kitchen; all have a refrigerator and microwave. Morning coffee and tea is available in the Lobby.
Overnight guests are allotted one mineral bath per person per day. Guests who stay for longer periods of time are encouraged to buy a bath card to keep on file for soaking as desired.
This family owned Inn has a 40 year history of great hospitality, with large, clean and comfortable rooms at reasonable prices.
Amenities include free local calls, orthopedic matresses, refrigerated A/C units, refrigerators, microwaves, DirecTV with Local Channels, TNT, ESPN, etc., modern bathrooms, and friendly service.
Located one mile north of downtown and the hot mineral springs, a mile south of IH-25 exit #79, this Truth or Consequences hotel sits on a hill with panoramic views of the mountains and desert.

Groups, retreats, clinics, workshops or family gatherings are welcome and we have a multi-purpose space called The Transformation Studio that is perfect for events available by the hour, day or weekend.
Historic tours are provided and we welcome inspection of our Courtyard rooms or Paloma Suites. Come and see why people from all over the world come to “take the waters” at La Paloma Hot Springs & Spa. Walk-in soakers are welcome. The hot springs at La Paloma offer “living” or sometimes called “structured” water and this property has a long held history of being regarded as “sacred ground”.
La Paloma Hot Springs & Spa was originally built in 1925 by Gene Anton and was called Marshall Miracle Pools. Believed to be the first car park motel in Truth or Consequences, NM (T or C) additions were made in 1940. Some of the Courtyard rooms are actually small Sears and Roebuck “cabins” that were originally constructed for workers building the dam at Elephant Butte Lake. The dam was complete circa 1920 and the cabins were moved to their present site. The property has had several owners over the years and each one made changes to suit the times and put their own “stamp” on it. The name was changed to Marshall Hot Springs many years ago and then changed to La Paloma when purchased by the current owner, Meleasa Malzahn in 2006. The Spanish called the area Ojo Caliente de Las Palomas (hot spring of the doves) so Leasa not only wanted to honor that name but liked the idea of using a dove to symbolize a peaceful atmosphere.
Our main goal is to preserve and make available the artesian hot springs located in Truth or Consequences. The La Paloma Bathhouse consists of five private free-flowing artesian pools and several foot-baths. We strive to maintain the historical ambiance while providing a clean and safe environment.
The surrounding property, previously known as Hay-Yo-Kay and now called La Paloma Too, was purchased in July, 2014 to continue our preservation efforts. This historic property has seven indoor pools, five outdoor pools, all free-flowing artesian water and five suites.
La Paloma Too has had several names such as The Yucca Bathhouse, Ye Olde Bathhouse, and Hay-Yo-Kay Bathhouse. It was also built circa 1920 and has been advertised as the oldest continuously operated bathhouse in the area. As one enters down the ramp into the “dugout” building it is like stepping back in time. We have 6 soaking pools available and a small pool in the entry that may have once been used for soap bathing or mud baths. The LongHouse is a large outdoor pool for public bathing and has long been a favorite. We have added a new floor to the LongHouse and it is available for public communal soaking or private reserved soaking. The Pagoda House is another outdoor pool.
Pools are private except the LongHouse, an outdoor pool which is communal unless reserved privately. We are family friendly and offer soaking for children 7 years and older in pools when 106 degrees or cooler. Please call in advance for lodging reservations. Soaking is on a first come, first served basis. Come for a soak or and extended stay……
